Glucose tolerance tests
Glucose tolerance tests are performed to diagnose diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance. The glucose tolerance test will measure the body’s ability to balance blood sugar levels when drinks or food containing sugar are consumed. The test is performed on a blood sample. The test requires fasting. The treating physician is always responsible for interpreting your results.

The glucose tolerance test first involves collecting a fasting blood sample. Next, you are given a glucose solution to drink. You need to drink the glucose solution in around five minutes. The blood sample is collected one hour and two hours after drinking the solution, or just once two hours after drinking the solution. You should expect the appointment to take over two hours.
The test requires you to book an appointment.
