Fimlab explores expanding cooperation with the Central Finland Wellbeing Services County
The Central Finland Wellbeing Services County currently provides pathology services on its own. Fimlab has submitted a proposal to the county regarding expanding cooperation and an option to transfer pathology laboratory operations to Fimlab’s service production. Fimlab has already implemented similar arrangements in four other wellbeing service counties: Pirkanmaa, Kanta-Häme, Päijät-Häme and Ostrobothnia.
Demand for pathology services is increasing significantly due to an ageing population and more precise diagnostics. At the same time, the availability of specialist physicians is declining. Centralising laboratory services makes it possible to secure the resources required for operations and the investments needed for development. Digitalisation and AI solutions require new investments and operating models, which Fimlab is well equipped to provide.
Fimlab has been providing laboratory services in Central Finland since 2014, and the Central Finland Wellbeing Services County is one of Fimlab’s main owners. According to the proposal, the county would continue to have its own pathology unit, but Fimlab would take responsibility for service production and development.
The Central Finland Wellbeing Services County has launched an evaluation into the matter. The evaluation is scheduled to be completed by March 2026.
