Clinical chemistry

Clinical chemistry includes chemical and immunochemical tests (enzymes, electrolytes, metabolic products, proteins, hormones, tumour markers, blood gases, medicinal substances and drug screenings). We carry out clinical chemistry analytics 24/7 in all our five operating areas.

Haematology

The haematology laboratory conducts blood cell tests, detection and monitoring of blood dyscrasias, blood clotting and thrombocyte tests as well as secretion tests. The haematology laboratories attached to hospitals also have a blood bank for pre-transfusion testing, storage and distribution of blood products. In addition, the Tampere central laboratory has a stem cell laboratory that processes and stores cells used for stem cell transplantations.

Microbiology

The clinical microbiology laboratory carries out bacteriology, virology, serology, autoimmune disease and mycology laboratory tests. Our microbiology specialists work in close collaboration with infectious disease doctors and other specialists who treat infections and immunological diseases.

Pathology

The pathology laboratory produces, among other things, histological sample tests and biopsy tests and participates in cervical cancer and breast cancer screenings. The hospital’s operating theatres are supported by frozen section diagnostics and sentinel lymph node examinations. The service to our professional clients is an important part of the overall pathology service, in particular the multidisciplinary meetings are a key element of the collaboration between pathology specialists and many doctors.

Genetics

Our genetics laboratory carries out laboratory studies on the human genome, both in congenital genetic diseases and in cancer diagnosis. We work closely with a wide range of specialist doctors (including geneticists, paediatricians, haematologists, oncologists and pathologists).

 

Fertility treatment laboratory

Fimlab’s fertility treatment laboratory provides a wide range of laboratory services to patients coming for infertility treatment through the Tays Hormone and Infertility Clinic and maintains the Infertility Clinic’s donor sperm and egg bank. The fertility treatment laboratory also conducts laboratory measures with the goal of preserving fertility. The semen laboratory also serves private customers.
