Gynaecological smear (Pap smear)

Cervical Pap smear is used to detect malignant cervical cell changes and their precursors. It can also be used to assess inflammations such as yeast, trichomoniasis and bacterial flora, but the Pap smear sample cannot be used to detect sexually transmitted diseases, such as chlamydia. In a Pap smear, cells detached from the vagina, uterine orifice and cervical canal are examined. A cervical screening sample cannot be collected during menstruation. Be prepared to answer questions relevant to the test (including your last menstrual period and hormone therapy). The results will be ready around one month after the sample was collected. Always book an appointment for a Pap smear. The result will appear on MyKanta as a statement. The result will not be available in the Fimlab mobile app. Please note that Fimlab is not responsible for interpretation of the results.
