Marker of prostate function

Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is a marker of prostate function that is determined from a blood sample. Benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostatitis cause a mild increase in PSA levels. Prostate cancer, on the other hand, often causes a noticeable increase in serum PSA levels. However, other tests are also required to confirm prostate cancer.

PSA tests are performed on a blood sample. The test does not require fasting or sampling in the morning.
