The specimen is analyzed for parasites and ova.
Collecting the sample
Pass stool into a clean container.
Collect a sample into the container with 10 ml of 10% formalin.
If your stools are loose (diarrhoea), collect 1 tea spoon of specimen into the container and mix well.
OR
Collect 1/2 tea spoon of specimen into the container and mix well.
Firmly close the container lid.
Labelling the specimen
Mark the container and tube with
- your name
- your social security number
- the date of collection
Handling and storing the sample
Pack the container in a plastic bag. You can store the sample in a fridge for three days.
Deliver the specimens to the laboratory.
