Safety Notice for FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus Sensor Users

Safety Notice for FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus Sensor Users

Abbott has identified that some FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensors may display incorrect low glucose readings. This can pose a health risk for people with diabetes if they are unaware of this issue.

On Abbott Oy’s website, you can check based on the serial number whether your sensors may be defective:

Go to freestylecheck.com and enter the sensor’s serial number.
You can find the serial number in the app or on the reader. It is also printed on the bottom of the sensor applicator and the sensor packaging.

If your sensor is among the defective ones:

  • Stop using it immediately and dispose of the sensor.
  • Order a replacement sensor at freestylecheck.com, the same site where you checked the serial number.
  • You can also contact Abbott Customer Service by phone to check if you have defective sensors and to order a replacement. Abbott Customer Service tel. 0800 555 500 is available Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

More information and detailed instructions can be found in Abbott’s notice: Urgent Field Safety Notice (pdf) (in Finnish and Swedish).

If you are unsure what to do, contact your diabetes nurse or your medical supplies service.
