Fimlab will publish four episodes of the Fimlab podcast during 2026. The first episode, “Can artificial intelligence detect cancer before a human?”, has now been released.

In the episode, Fimlab’s Director of Pathology and Genetics Mika Tirkkonen and clinical cell biologist Jatta Saarenheimo talk about how artificial intelligence is used today and how it may be used in the future in cancer diagnostics. The episode also explores myths related to pathology and discusses the meaningfulness of this work in healthcare.

The purpose of the Fimlab podcast is to present laboratory-related topics from perspectives of interest to the general public. The topic of the forthcoming second episode is screening and its effectiveness from both an individual and societal perspective.
