Benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostatitis cause a mild increase in PSA levels. Prostate cancer, on the other hand, often causes a noticeable increase in serum PSA levels. However, other tests are also required to confirm prostate cancer. You should always discuss high PSA levels with your doctor.
