Free-of-charge home testing for chlamydia and gonorrhoea from urine or vaginal sample
Home testing can be a good option for you if
- your home municipality is Jyväskylä, Hankasalmi or Uurainen or if your place of study is in one of these municipalities
- you live in one the aforementioned municipalities for an extended period due to work or for another reason
- at least five days have passed since you had unprotected sex
- You have completed the STD symptom assessment in the Omaolo service.
The wellbeing services county of Central Finland pays for the testing and is the data controller.
1. When can you use the remote testing service?
If you have had unprotected sex, complete the STD symptom assessment in the Omaolo service. If the assessment states that home testing is adequate in your case, you can order the home testing package. You can collect the sample yourself at home and then post it to a laboratory for examination. Please note that at least five days must have passed since you had unprotected sex.
NB: The home testing package can only be used to detect chlamydia and gonorrhoea infections from urine or a vaginal sample. Home testing is not suitable for detecting other STDs. Antibiotics can also influence the test results. After a treated infection, the test can give a positive result for four weeks.
2. Complete the STD symptom assessment in the Omaolo service
You can find the STD symptom assessment service here.
If you are an upper secondary student, choose student health services as your service location in the assessment. Otherwise, choose your own health centre.
3. Do the test
Collect the sample at home and send it to a laboratory.

4. Test results to Fimlab mobile app
We will record your test results in the patient record system used by the wellbeing services county of Central Finland and in the Kanta Services archive. The test results are usually completed in 3–5 working days of the delivery of the sample. We will send the results to the Fimlab mobile app.
5. Interpretation of test results
Contact a healthcare unit if:
- your test result is positive
- your test result is negative, but you suspect that you have an STD caused by some other pathogen or a non-genital STD.
