FAECAL CALPROTECTIN

Calprotectin is released into stool in inflammatory bowel diseases. It is not necessary to follow a special diet before the sampling of stool.

Sample collection

It is recommended to take the sample of the first stool of the morning. Defecate on a suitable surface, e.g. a kidney dish or disposable plate. A sample taken from the toilet is not suitable. Put approximately one tablespoon of stool into the sample container. The sample should fill no more than half of the container. If the stool contains undigested food (e.g. seeds), avoid including it in the sample. The container must be clean on the outside. Close the lid carefully.

The name tag is necessary for identifying the sample

Stick a label on to the side of the sample container. Write on it your

  • name
  • social security number
  • date of sample

Seal the sample container inside a plastic bag. Store the sample at refrigerator temperature.

Deliver the sample to the laboratory as soon as possible but no later than on the next working day.
