The specimen is analyzed for pathogenic bacteria (salmonella, shigella, campylobacter and yersinia).
Collecting the sample
Sample for pathogens: collect a sample into the container and the tube.
Sample for salmonella only: collect a sample into the container.
Keep the sample container/tube at room temperature before collecting the sample.
Pass stool into a clean container.
Collecting the sample:
- Half fill the container with stool and close the lid firmly.
- Open the tube and attach the stick provided to the tube top. With the stick, collect a sample of stool, preferably from an area of mucous or blood and place the stick into the tube and firmly close the top.
Labelling the specimen
Mark the container and tube with
- your name
- your social security number
- the date of collection
Handling and storing the sample
Pack the container and the tube in a plastic bag and store refrigerated.
Deliver the specimens to the laboratory.
